Michael and Duyen's wedding

In June, we were blessed to be able to attend our friends Michael and Duyen's wedding down in The Mekong. Most foreigners only get to go to the reception part of Veitnamese weddings but we were lucky enough to attend the ceremony at Duyen's Mom's house as well.

A bunch of Michael's friends and his family all came over from England for the wedding. Everyone rented Ao Dai's (the Vietnamese traditional dress) and Michael organised buses to take us down south. We stopped off at our hotel first to change and then we were taken to Duyen's mom's house.

How's these ous?

We got quite a few stares as a line of foreigners dressed in Ao Dai's is not the most common site to see.

After the ceremony we made our way across to the reception venue. There was plenty to eat and drink and lots of people were very excited to take pictures with the foreigners. It was quite interesting that most people were dressed in ordinary clothing whereas all the foreigners were wearing Ao Dai's.

Fireworks. Actual fireworks.
After this formal part of the reception, everyone proceeded to get very drunk and sing karaoke. The reception lasted three hours (10am - 1pm). Before we knew it, the venue was completely empty and we were being ushered out! It was an awesome experience, congratulations Michael and Duyen!
