Hue

After saying a final goodbye to Hoi An (by enjoying some ice cream!), we made our way to The Sinh Tourist offices to catch our bus to Hue. We took a sleeper bus which was a first for all of our visitors. Sleeper buses are pretty comfortable since you get to recline and can nap pretty easily. After a long and windy trip, we arrived in Hue. It was dark so we couldn't see much and there were no taxis in sight! Thank goodness we had booked a hotel in advance and when we eventually managed to get a taxi, we made our way there. We were greeted by warm smiles and complimentary, hot coffee was brought to our rooms! After putting down our bags, we went hunting for food. Rather than walking around trying to find a place to eat, Ross looked at the top rated restaurants on Trip Advisor. He found one that looked good and we made our way there. We had some delicious food and then went back to the hotel to sleep after a long day of travelling.

Since our time in Hue was very limited, we woke up early, gobbled down breakfast and then walked over to the Citadel. Hue is the old Imperial Capital from the Nguyen dynasty and so it's filled with culture and history. There are loads of tombs, museums, temples and pagodas to go to, but we decided to go and see the Citadel and if we had time, venture to some of the other sites. The Citadel is protected by large walls and a moat, which stretch all the way around it. Making it tricky to get in. We were in awe of the size of the walls and how thick they are! The Citadel is filled with an array of buildings and beautiful gardens. There are so many interesting things to see, that we only managed to see a fraction of it before it was time to check out of our hotel.

Dragon boats which cruise the rivers in and around Hue.

Jumping with joy to be spending time with each other!

Huge Koi within the Citadel walls

We nearly didn't see him!

After a short stay in Hue, it was back to Da Nang to catch a flight to Ha Noi. We splashed out and hired a private driver who offers airport transfers from Hue to Da Nang Airport. It made the trip super quick, even though it was a little squashed. The driver wasn't shy to drive fast, and (just like every trip in Vietnam) there were a few near misses along the way! But we got to the airport safely (and early), and enjoyed some coffee while we waited for our flight.
