In loving memory of Brent

On Sunday we heard the devastating news from home that my sister's boyfriend, Brent, tragically passed away in Northdale hospital that morning. This is by far the most difficult post that I have ever had to write, and that is why it has taken me a few days to get it all down. We thought that it would be fitting to post it today, the day of Brent's memorial back in South Africa. We are heart broken that we can't be there to say goodbye and support his family and loved ones.

Brent was a good man with a gentle heart. Although he was a shy and quiet guy, it was clear that he cared deeply about people, especially those closest to him. He had a special kind of love for animals too - even the odd and creepy ones!

The love that he had for my sister, and the happiness that he brought her, was a true testament to what a great guy Brent was. The time that they were blessed to share together were visibly some of the happiest times of Kelly's life, and they will be cherished forever and will be looked back upon fondly. He absolutely adored her and put her on the pedestal that she deserves.

Being a keen - and extremely talented - photographer, Brent could often be seen with his camera in hand and looking for the perfect angle to get the perfect shot. He would then spend hours hunched over his computer turning these already great photographs into mini masterpieces - millions of them!

He loved the sea and the beach too. Some of my favourite pictures and videos of his are those of his dog, Jada, running freely and enthusiastically along the beach

It's times like these that make living abroad truly difficult. We hope that Brent's family, friends, loved ones and especially our beloved Kelly find peace in the wake of this shocking tragedy. Lots of love.
