The week that was

This past week ended up being rather a busy one. It was the first week of the new school year at VStar which meant being there at 7am on Monday morning to welcome the kids! We’ve also just joined the gym so everyday after work we've been heading there.

We get lunch at school but then we still have another hour to kill before we need to be back  in the office. We could sit in the office but then it really feels like you haven’t had a break so we often go out for coffee. We went to one of our trusty road side coffee carts but this time we were accompanied by some of our colleagues.

Yay for coffee!!!

During summer school, Friday always meant Pho for lunch which, when cooked well, is absolutely delicious but we aren't fans of the school’s version so we decided to head out for lunch. We went to Al Fresco’s again for their awesome lunch time special. Ross had a chicken quesadilla, a chicken and bacon burger and apple pie while Mel had potato wedges, pizza, salad and apple pie.

On Friday night, our friend (and fellow grade one teacher) Michael invited us to go to a restaurant called Scott and Binh’s. We have heard so much about this restaurant and all of the feedback has been excellent so we decided to try it out. We shared chicken fingers for starters and wow they did not disappoint at all! They were crispy yet light at the same time. For our mains, Mel had a lamb burger and Ross had a beef and bacon burger with wedges (yes, he had two burgers with bacon on them in one day - so much for healthy living!). The wedges were insanely good and the burgers were absolutely delicious. We knew that the food would be good from the what we’d heard and the food totally lived up to all of the hype. We were absolutely stuffed but we had to try some dessert. We shared a snickers tart - a chocolate tart with peanuts and caramel sauce - heaven! Luckily we had been to gym before this magnificent meal so we didn't feel quite as bad by how much we consumed!

We both worked on Saturday morning so after a very healthy lunch (salad), we decided that a nap was definitely in order after a long week of work. Then off to the Sheraton rooftop bar we went. We ordered cocktails and watched the sunset. After feeling like larney’s, we made our way to our old stomping ground, Bui Vien, for some dinner. We went from sipping cocktails in one of the most expensive hotels in the city, to sitting on plastic chairs and ordering food from a street vendor! After that, we made our way to our favourite pub, Harry Casuals, to join Craig and a fellow South African, Steve, for the Sharks vs. Griquas game.

On Sunday, we both worked in the morning and Ross had a class in the afternoon so the rest of the day was spent relaxing and enjoying the last bit of weekend before another manic week begins.
