Our first day in Cape Town

On Wednesday morning, after attempting a bit of our TEFL courses, we headed off to the V&A Waterfront. After spending about half an hour trying to find the parking garage (there was so much construction going on that it was almost impossible to find!), we headed off to the Robben Island ticket office. We phoned ahead and were told that there were a few tickets left for the morning tour. Unfortunately we were late thanks to our parking escapade and had to book a later tour.

With a few hours to kill, we wondered around the waterfront and then decided to visit the Aquarium. The shark tank was a real highlight for Ross and the penguins were definitely Mel’s favourite!

After that we were off on our tour to Robben Island. We were blessed with a beautiful, clear day and flat seas making the boat ride out to the island awesome. There were A LOT of people on the ferry with us and we were herded onto about 6 busses which all went in different directions. We really enjoyed it, but found that the groups that we were in were too big and the tour was too quick.

No photoshop needed... the day was so clear!

That evening, we met Mike and Alrishka at a place in town called Eastern Food Market. It was awesome - if you’re in Cape Town, you have to try it! The restaurant basically extends across the entire ground floor of a building. The whole of the one side is lined with kitchens with almost every kind of Asian food you can think of, and the other side is lined with tables. You go and look at what you would like to eat, pay at the till and then go and collect your food from the kitchen it’s made at. Great food, huge portions and very reasonably priced. This is a stop that should be on everyone’s list when visiting Cape Town
